Poppy and the Garden of Little Lights is a gentle, magical story about love, loss, memories and the special people who remain part of our lives, even when we can no longer see them.
Written with children in mind, the story uses a magical garden and its little lights to explore the idea that those we love can continue to shine brightly in our hearts and in the memories we make.
A story written from the heart
I wrote Poppy and the Garden of Little Lights for two very special reasons.
The first is in memory of my beautiful sister, Ellie.
Ellie was my little sister, and losing her to cancer was something that changed our family forever. There are so many things I wish I could have shared with her, and so many memories I wish Poppy could have made with her auntie.
The second reason I wrote this book is for Poppy.
I wanted to create something that would give her a connection to Ellie that she could carry with her as she grows. A little piece of her auntie that she could hold onto, return to and treasure. Somewhere within the pages, I hope she can feel the love that surrounded her before she was old enough to understand it, and know that her auntie will always be part of her story.
And so, Poppy and the Garden of Little Lights was born.
It is a story about remembering someone you love, finding comfort in the memories they leave behind, and understanding that love doesn't disappear when someone does. Sometimes, it simply finds a different way to shine.
I hope this book will become something special for Poppy, but also for other families who have experienced loss. A gentle story to open conversations, remember someone special and find a little bit of light during difficult times.
